Beauty Entrepreneur – Natasha Moor

“No one is you and that is your power”. I am Natasha Moor, an Entrepreneur, Make- Up Artist and a Philanthropist. I like to believe that I can be part of something bigger in my role as Founder and CEO of ‘Natasha Moor Cosmetics’. Through my platform and voice, I want to empower women to be the best version of themselves, inside and out.

I have always been interested in makeup but did not realise that I could pursue it as a career until after I graduated from college. I studied Public Relations (PR) and Marketing at the London College of Fashion, and after graduation was given the unique opportunity to build a start-up entertainment company. In my role, I managed various departments and took a leadership role in each of these areas, one of which allowed me to realise my true path! It started as casting and hiring models, writing scripts for commercials and infomercials to then doing the make-up and guiding the editor to achieve a successful final result myself.

I realised through this that the art of make-up truly gave me happiness, a sense of calm and confidence. This prompted me to do something that required a lot of courage: I quit my job and flew to NYC to do a short course on make-up at the Lisa Schorr Institute in New York to refine my skills; something I was always passionate about but never thought would become my career. Shortly after finishing my course, I returned to Hong Kong and dove straight into working on shoots, films, TV shows and then on to bridal makeup, where I found my vocation – to create a platform that inspires and advocates the importance of inner power, which in turn complements outer beauty.

I was always fond of makeup growing up; it was something I excelled in and practised on myself regularly. I never thought that I could pursue this as a full-time career, but when I took the plunge, I can now say it was the best decision I have ever made. Working with my direct clientele and brides, I experienced a sense of genuine happiness and an of confidence post-makeup application. I questioned, “does makeup change or impact someone’s confidence?” I wanted to investigate this feeling by working with those that needed a confidence boost the most.

I visited numerous women’s shelters and rehabilitation centres, as part of my #DoMoor initiative, where I came across women from all walks of life and had the incredible opportunity to use makeup as a tool to transform the way they felt. I experienced the same reaction with each person I worked with – a boost self-confidence and excitement in their eyes looking at themselves in the mirror. At that moment, I discovered what truly ignited a fire in my soul; using makeup as a transformational tool that allows individuals to feel empowered and confident in their skin. Makeup can conceal blemishes, highlight areas of the face, and offer a sense of self-care, it can manifest inner confidence that shines through your smile, your eyes, and your soul.Natasha Moor at Spark-A-Change Foundation These experiences serve as the root of why I love what I do, and this can be seen through every product in our entire cosmetics collection, our #DoMoor philanthropic initiatives and as a makeup artist.

Natasha Moor Cosmetics and the products within the collection is inspired by my experiences as a makeup artist and philanthropist. I noticed a gap in the market with lipstick in particular – I couldn’t find something that had lasting power and was hydrating, highly pigmented and looked luxurious while being accessible at the same time.

I was inspired to create products for individuals that empowered those who wore them and gave them a sense of confidence. I took two years to formulate our Molten Matte Liquid Lipsticks, which come in 18 different pigmented shades, are moisturising and have a 14-hour staying power – to the extent that you don’t need to reapply. I simultaneously developed our Silk Suede Lipsticks as I felt that there wasn’t a rich, long-lasting lipstick available that looked glamorous in your purse and was functional for easy application. Each of our 15 shades of lipsticks is cased in an ergonomically designed press and release packaging with a mirror.

Every one of our lip colours is named after heartening and empowering mantras, to manifest and live by each message. Some of our shade names include Game Changer, Boss and Serendipity.

I consider myself very lucky to be working in something I love, and also at the same time being able to empower other women around the world through my products is truly fulfilling. My favourite kind of days is the ones in which I can feel and see that my products are serving as a source of confidence. I love seeing someone wear a shade, for example, Hustler and be told that they felt the affirmation manifest during their day.

I wear two hats, one as a makeup artist and the other as the Founder and CEO of Natasha Moor Cosmetics – both are very different. As a bridal make-up artist, it’s #MoorThanMakeup. The application of makeup is key, but it goes above and beyond that. It is so important to me to make them feel their absolute best, as it is one of the most important days of their life. I truly enjoy taking the extra effort to be someone that my brides can rely on for anything throughout the festivities.

The challenges in my job are that some days I feel I need two of me and more hours in a single day. I am extremely hands-on with all areas of the business from concept development to product formulation, colour selection, packaging and distribution to ensure every addition to the Natasha Moor Cosmetics portfolio speaks true to our values: to empower and inspire all those who wear it.

I love to formulate and create products that truly empower and ignite a sense of self-confidence in those who wear them. When people reach out and share their experiences after application or wearing our products, it brings me so much joy. With that being said, as we are so particular about our formulations, our products are made all over the world and often bringing all the components together can be challenging.

At the moment, we have a diverse range of products in our portfolio, which encapsulates skin, eyes and lips and we hope to expand this further in future. Most recently, we have launched Kohl It Magic, our triple black long-stay eyeliner that shapes eyes to perfection and Moor Power, our extreme volumising mascara that can envelop every lash for volume and length. We have also engaged in formulating new shades for both of our lipstick collections. This is a process that requires a lot of time on the formulation to packaging, to get perfect results.

Natasha Moor Cosmetics is inspired by the various individuals with whom I’ve worked with, my direct clientele and through my philanthropic initiatives. Our most recent #DoMoor initiative with the Spark-A-Change Foundation in Mumbai, “Soul Mate”, was one that created in tandem with our “Soulmate” lipstick shade and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of it goes towards providing sandals to those in need. It continues to be a core focus for our brand.

As a brand, we have had amazing opportunities to work with partners such as Sephora in Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia, as well as Macy’s in the USA, and Amazon, to make the entire product range accessible to our customers.  Being able to work with such wonderful partners that believe in our brand are truly milestones for us.

As a piece of advice for the aspirants, I would say, starting something up is one of the most fulfilling, but also one of the most challenging things you will do. It will push you to your utmost limits, but will also be unbelievably gratifying. I wish I knew to believe in myself from the get-go, and take a chance on my dreams no matter what anyone else.

In the times of pandemic, I have been fortunate enough to be able to grow our existing Sephora Southeast Asia business and launch into major new retailers around the World, with several other retailers in the pipeline to be announced in various countries. The brand’s newness and fresh approach to beauty have opened doors for us even the toughest of business climates. We have also used these times in developing our digital and social media presence and have created content that is informative and educational in terms of product types and techniques on how to use them along with focusing on growing our existing bond with the community.

My success mantra, “No one is you and that is your power”. I strongly believe that everybody has something wonderful to offer, and sometimes don’t see it in themselves. Through Natasha Moor Cosmetics and my platform, I hope to be able to make individuals feel more empowered and indestructibly confident about themselves.
